Background
Dr Mikić has recently left her long academic career to work in the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. During her academic career, Mia was a professor at Graduate School of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, Croatia and a senior lecturer at the Department of Economics, the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Ever since completing her first university degree, Mia's professional life focused on International Trade (theory and policy) and related linkages such as development, reform, social standards, environmental standards, and competition. She has taught a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in broad area of International Economics, Microeconomics, Economics of the EU and (Post)transition economics. She has published on various aspects of trade policy and theory, including regionalism, and issues related to enlargement of the EU. She has been collaborating with the NCRE since its establishment. Mia is the founding member of the European Communities Studies Association of New Zealand and was its treasurer for a number of years.

Research Interests
My current research interests include the role of the service sector in trade in development (with a special focus on Modes 1 and 4, regulatory regimes and competition in the service sector); poverty and gender impacts of trade liberalization, the multilateral trading system, trade and investment policy under imperfect competition (including the location of industry), open economy growth and development, state aid, preferential trading agreements (mapping and monitoring), EU enlargement and Asia-Pacific regionalism.
