Details of Research
This research will investigate how environmental policies in New Zealand (NZ) and the European Union (EU) correlate with subsequent actions. By analysing the efficacy of environmental policy across three key areas; climate change, conservation and sustainability, the legitimacy of NZ’s clean, green image and the EU’s global environmental leadership can be explored. In addition, gauging public opinion on environmental issues and their related policies and initiatives is important in order to understand the transparency and prominence of governmental action in this area. By looking at how environmental policies are implemented in NZ and the EU and how this is viewed in the public arena this research will be able to determine the level of coherence between institutions and their constituents on these issues. The examination of how closely policy correlates with practice in NZ and the EU should help resolve the issue of whether they have earned their reputations as global environmental exemplars.
