Background

Stuart McMillan worked for "The Press" in Christchurch from 1959 to 1997. From 1976 until 1997, he was an editorial writer and a specialist writer on international affairs. He is a columnist on international affairs for the "National Business Review", was a Visiting Scholar in International Relations at the International Trade Policy Research Centre at Lincoln University from 1997 until 1999, and is currently International Affairs Analyst and Research Associate in the NCRE. He has written extensively on a wide range of international issues for both books and magazines.

Stuart McMillan has been awarded a number of honours and been a member of many societies, institutions and committees. These include:

  • M.B.E., 1987
  • Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms Control (PACDAC) – fellowship holder, later committee member, resigned 2004
  • New Zealand Institute of International Affairs - Christchurch Branch committee member, Branch President 1993-1999

  • International Institute for Strategic Studies, London – former member, resigned 2000
